WELCOME TO THE CITY OF VILLA HILLS.  THE 2000 CENSUS SHOWS VILLA HILLS HAS A POPULATION OF 7,939.  VILLA HILLS IS A FOURTH CLASS CITY UNDER KENTUCKY LAW AND IS GOVERNED BY A MAYOR AND COUNCIL.

The City Council meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise published.  Meetings will be held at the Dennis M. Stein Municipal Building, 719 Rogers Road. 

The City provides 24-hour police protection.  The Chief of the Police Department is Daniel P. Goodenough.

 The Crescent-Villa Fire Authority provides fire and emergency medical care through a joint venture with Villa Hills and Crescent Springs to support the Crescent Springs Fire Department.  This is a volunteer based service manned by skilled, trained and dedicated volunteers.

TRASH & RECYCLABLES COLLECTION:

The City provides waste collection once a week by private contract with Rumpke of Cincinnati Ohio.    Brush must be bundled and all containers must be so one man can handle them.  If there are any large items please call Rumpke at (513) 242-4401 for a separate pickup.

Recyclables are: corrugated cardboard; newspapers; plastic bottles; glass bottles and jars; beverage cans; vegetable, fruit and juice cans.   Red recycle bins are available at the City Building, 719 Rogers Road. 

For residents of Prospect Point, check with the Prospect Point Management for trash and recycling collection information.

City Tax Bills – The bills are based on the fiscal year – July 1st through June 30th.  Tax bills are mailed the second week in September, due October 1st and Delinquent November 15th.  If you have any questions or if you do not receive your bill, please call the City Clerk – 341-1515.  The practice of mailing bills directly to mortgage companies was eliminated again this year.  All bills will be mailed directly to the owners.  Many mortgage companies have contacted our office to get the payment due information and we have given that via fax or phone.  Your lender may have already received your bill information.  This is important for residents who purchase an existing home after January 1st.  Tax role is furnished with the name of the homeowner of record as of January 1st of the present year.  Remember that is your responsibility to obtain your tax bill.  Please call if you do not receive your bill.

Homestead Exemption – If you are a homeowner residing in the home are 65 years of age or on disability income, you may be eligible to receive the Homestead Exemption on your property tax bill.  Contact the Property Valuation Administrator's office at 491-2728 to apply.  You do not need to apply for this exemption with the City of Villa Hills; if approved by the PVA office, you will automatically receive the deduction on your city tax bill.

Dogs and Cats – The City has a Leash Law, this requires the licensing of all dogs and cats in the city.  License can be obtained at the Kenton County Animal Shelter.  The cost is $5.00.  The registration and license period shall be between January 1st and December 31st of each year.  It is unlawful to keep any one residence, within the city limits, more than five dogs or cats or any combination thereof.  The exception is that the owner or person's), who has custody of a dog or cat, may obtain the puppies or kittens, for a period of twelve weeks after the birth of the animals.

Motor Vehicle Fee – The City requires a Motor Vehicle Fee be obtained for each auto, truck, motorcycle or other motor vehicle that is registered ins the City.  The fee is $40.00 per vehicle and should be purchased at the City Building, 720 Rogers Road.  Any person who qualifies for Homestead Exemption pursuant to Kentucky Constitution Section 170 and KY Revised Statutes Section 132.810 may apply for and receive a Twenty ($20.00) Dollar discount for one motor vehicle subject to this license requirement, with a limit of two discounted (2) vehicles per household.  A 10% fee will be assessed after March 31st, 2008 per vehicle. 

Traffic – Speed limits for the City of Villa Hills are Buttermilk Pike (35 mph), Collins Road (40 mph) and Amsterdam Road (35 mph).  All other streets are 20 mph or as posted.  There will be no parking within thirty feet of any intersection, no parking within twenty feet of any fire plug, no parking within five feet of any private driveway, no parking in a designated bus stop.  The ordinance prohibiting parking of vehicles facing the wrong direction is strictly enforced by the Villa Hills Police Department.  There is no parking on the cul-de-sac streets.  The City has an ordinance prohibiting the parking on City streets during a SNOW EMERGENCY.  The Mayor may declare a snow emergency any time in which he determines that snow or ice has created a risk on the streets of Villa Hills.  Signs are posted at the entrances to the City of Villa Hills.

Recreation – Organized sports such as baseball, softball, soccer and football are offered for children 5 years through high school.  Adult teams are also offered in softball.  The City’s leased ball-fields and park and the new Harry Rigney Park are located:

Voice of Villa Hills -  The Voice of Villa Hills is the local newspaper published by the Civic Club and delivered to your home free of charge the last weekend of each month.  Look for it in your driveway.  For more information on other organizations and activities in the City, check the “Voice of Villa Hills”.  The editor is Diana Siebert at 331-5505, to publish an ad call Diane Hammonds, 331-5621 and classified call Terri Neltner at 341-8974.  The deadline for the Voice is on the third Monday of the month.  You can drop it off at the City Building before the Monday deadline.

Garden Club – The Villa Hills Garden Club president is Martha Lange.  The members work on the islands, the city sign, and sponsor the annual garden award contest.  We are members of the Northern Kentucky Garden Club Association, and enjoy participating in fun social activities, along with our gardening work.  If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Martha Lange at 859-331-5517.
